Actress and writer Carrie Fisher suffered a heart attack Friday while on an airplane, NBC News confirmed.
Fisher suffered a heart attack on a Los Angeles-bound flight, law enforcement officials told NBC News. She was in full cardiac arrest on the plane and was rushed to a hospital shortly after noon. She was flying from London to Los Angeles.

Fisher's brother, Todd Fisher, told the Associated Press she was "out of emergency" and stabilized at the hospital.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was contacted just before United flight 935 landed, about 12:11 local time and performed "advanced life support," the department told NBC News. Paramedics arrived at the gate and took her to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, officials said.
United Airlines said in a statement to NBC News that a passenger became unresponsive on Flight 935 from London to Los Angeles but did not name the passenger. "Our thoughts are with our customer at this time," the airline said.

Fisher is well known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars trilogy.
The news drew angry rebukes on social media from fans tired of a 2016 that has seen the loss of several celebrities, including Prince, David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Glen Frey, John Glenn, Gene Wilder, Leonard Cohen, Muhammad Ali, among others.
Among many angry, concerned tweets at Fisher news, one stood out. Comedian Patton Oswalt shouted down 2016 -- a tweet that came with personal grief. Oswalt's wife, Michelle McNamara, died unexpectedly this year.
