Detroit man charged with 7 felonies after holding knife to woman's neck during robbery

CLINTON TOWNSHIP. Mich. – A 29-year-old Detroit man has been charged with seven felonies and a misdemeanor in connection with an armed robbery in Clinton Township.

Police said Pierre Tipton was inside a woman's home at 7:54 a.m. Monday, when she returned home near the corner of 15 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.

The woman said Tipton struck her in the head and held a knife to her neck.

Two handguns and other property were taken from the home, police said. Clinton Township police searched for the man, but he escaped.

Detectives arrested Tipton on Thursday and issued the following charges:

  • Armed robbery -- felony with life in prison or any term of years
  • First-degree home invasion -- 20-year felony
  • Unlawful imprisonment -- 15-year felony
  • Two counts of larceny of a firearm -- each 5-year felonies
  • Two counts of felony firearm -- each 2-year felonies
  • Fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct -- 2-year misdemeanor

Tipton is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in at the 41-B District Court in Clinton Township.
