SOUTH LYON, Mich. – Candles were believed to be the cause of a fire Friday morning at an apartment building in South Lyon, according to authorities.
The fire happened at about 12:15 a.m. at the Waters Edge Apartments off Lafayette Street, between 10 and 11 Mile roads.
A first floor apartment suffered significant damage and the flames extended up an exterior wall causing damage to three apartments on the second floor.
The apartment complex’s management moved the four families that were affected by the fire to other units of the complex.
The South Lyon Fire Department believes the fire was caused by a candle that was too close to combustibles.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities said the fire could have resulted in a total building loss if it had not been for the work of fire crews.
