Family escapes Warren house fire with grandmother in wheelchair

Four generations of family lived in home

WARREN, Mich. – A family of six is without a home Monday after a house caught on fire early in the morning.

The fire happened at about 6 a.m. in the 8500 block of Lozier Avenue. Nobody was injured in the fire.

Four generations of family members lived in the home – a great-grandmother, a grandmother, a mother and two children.

The grandmother suffered a stroke and is bound to a wheelchair. Her 23-year-old daughter pulled her from the fire.

“She doesn't walk,” the daughter said. “All I could do was drag her on the floor.”

Her son was taken to the hospital with burns to his hands and arms after helping family members to safety.

Two dogs and a parakeet were also rescued from the home.

The cause of the fire is unknown but family members believe the cause was electrical.
