Bicyclist killed in crossfire in Southwest Detroit

Michael Macinno's family pleads for answers

DETROIT – A bicyclist was killed after being caught in the crossfire when occupants of two cars started shooting early Saturday in Southwest Detroit.

The family of Michael Macinno wants to know who pulled the trigger, killing the father.

According to police, Macinno was riding his bike at 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of McGraw Avenue and Chopin Street when several shots were fired from two passing cars. Macinno was hit in the crossfire and killed.

"They took everything from me. He was my first son," Delia Moran, Macinno's mother, said. "He was innocent. Those bullets were not for him."

Macinno worked as landscaper, and is remembered as a loving father who always put his family first, especially his youngest child -- a 4-year-old daughter.

"He was a great father. He saw her every weekend and called her three times a day," Jessica Hensley said.

Police said there were people in the area at the time, but they don’t have many leads.

Meanwhile, the family is begging for those responsible to come forward.

"All I want is for that person to be caught. If they're seeing me, don't be a coward. Step up and say you did it," Moran said. "If they don’t catch them now, God knows how many more lives he's going to do it to, how many more mothers will be suffering the way I am."

A GoFundMe account has been set up.
