Detroit Tigers open Florida spring training facility as shelter during Hurricane Irma

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Detroit Tigers have converted their spring training facility in Lakeland, Fla. into a shelter as Hurricane Irma hits the state.

Emergency personnel in Lakeland are using the 84-acre complex as a headquarters, while families are filling up the clubhouse, which is windowless and has concrete walls.
