Faurecia closes Michigan Sterling Heights plant, will have layoffs at others

Automotive parts manufacturer suffered loss of customer business

Faurecia, an automotive parts manufacturer, is closing one of its Michigan plants and layoffs are expected at others. Hundreds of people are expected to lose their jobs.

The company makes automotive seats, interior systems and emissions control technologies. Their customers in the region include FCA, Ford, General Motors, BMW, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen.

Overall, Faurecia will make 348 layoffs. The company credits the plant closures to a loss of customer business and the end of production on the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart.

The following plants are affected:

CLOSING: Faurecia Interior Systems'
Sterling Heights plant at 42555 Merrill Road
Expected date is Dec. 2

LAYOFFS: Faurecia Interior Systems’
Fraser plant at 17085 Masonic Boulevard
Expected date is between Dec. 2 and Dec. 16.
