WARREN, Mich. – A Warren man is facing charges after officials said he was caught with sexually explicit materials involving children and videos of himself sexually abusing a dog.

Members of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said they received a tip earlier this year that sparked a Michigan State Police investigation into Robert Gregory Hagberg II, 37, of Warren.

On Feb. 6, 2024, police said they discovered that Hagberg had several computer files of sexually abusive materials involving children, as well as videos of himself sexually abusing a dog while living in Warren.

Hagberg was charged with three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive materials, three counts of using a computer a commit a crime, and one count of killing/torturing animals. The first six charges are all 10-year felonies, and the final charge is a four-year felony.

“We will protect children from harm and ensure that those who exploit and harm them face the full consequences of their actions,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “It is my duty to seek justice for those who have been wronged, especially when it involves vulnerable children and animals.”

Hagberg was arraigned Feb. 20 in 37th Warren District Court and given a $250,000 cash bond. He isn’t allowed to have contact with children or animals, if he’s released.

During a probable cause conference on Tuesday, March 5, Hagberg requested a reduced bond, but his request was denied by Warren District Court Judge Michael Chupa. The hearing was adjourned until 8:45 a.m. April 2.
