STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A woman was killed and three people were hurt in a Macomb County crash between two drivers who were drunk, police said.

The crash happened at 1:38 a.m. Saturday in the area of 15 Mile Road and Stanley Drive in Sterling Heights.

A Detroit man was driving a Ford Explorer east on 15 Mile Road when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Honda Pilot that was heading west, according to a release.

Police said there were six people from Windsor, Ontario, inside the Pilot. One woman was pronounced dead at the hospital and a child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A woman in the Explorer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said.

Both drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police believe alcohol was a factor for both of them, the release says.

The driver of the Explorer was arrested and taken to the Macomb County Jail, while the driver of the Pilot was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police at 586-446-2920.
