KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. – An 82-year-old man was injured after his vehicle was hit by a school bus in southwestern Michigan, police said.

The crash happened at 3:30 p.m. on South 9th Street near Meridian Avenue in Kalamazoo County’s Oshtemo Township.

Michigan State Police troopers learned that the bus driver allegedly failed to yield when turning into a private drive at an apartment building, and struck a Honda CRV.

The Honda was traveling southbound on South 9th Street when it was hit. The 82-year-old driver, of Kalamazoo, was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The school bus driver was not injured, and neither were the students on the bus.

State police say the bus driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the 82-year-old was not.

Conditions were clear at the time of the crash.

Roads were closed for about three hours while crews cleaned up.

The investigation is ongoing.
