Here’s what President Trump said about the auto industry during his Inauguration Speech

DETROIT – Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president Monday after promising dozens of actions and changes to reshape the country’s institutions.

Among his priorities was a revival of the auto industry, something he spoke of frequently while campaigning. During Trump’s Inauguration Speech, the incoming president again promised to revitalize automotive manufacturing in the United States.

Trump spoke of revoking incentives for electric vehicle makers and consumers and tariffs in an effort to make American manufacturing more appealing to automakers.

During the speech, GM CEO Mary Barra posted on social media that she would work with the President to improve the auto industry.

“With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American auto workers. In other words, you’ll be able to buy the car of your choice. We will build automobiles in America again at a rate that nobody could have dreamt possible just a few years ago. And thank you to the auto workers of our nation for your inspiring vote of confidence. We did tremendously with their vote. I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens.”
