MDOT to hold community meeting for upcoming I-696 project

In less than a month, there will be a massive two-year construction project on I-696.

An eight-mile stretch of EB I-696 from Lahser in Southfield to I-75 in Royal Oak will undergo construction.

On Tuesday night, the community can learn more about the project with a meeting in Oak Park.

‘I’m from Detroit’: Pistons launch capsule to honor Malcolm X’s legacy for his 100th birthday

The Detroit Pistons announced a retail capsule celebrating Malcolm X’s life, legacy, and connection to Detroit.

The capsule will be available on Friday (Feb. 7), the Pistons HBCU/NPHC Night, on Pistons313Shop.com, and at the Pistons Team Store at Little Caesars Arena.

The collaboration aims to tell an authentic story of Malcolm X’s time in Detroit and his passion for empowering and unifying all people, regardless of color.

Michigan mother gets 15 years in prison after abandoning 1-year-old son on Florida beach

A Michigan mother was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by 15 years of probation in connection to abandoning her 1-year-old son at a beach in Florida, officials said.

A jury in Volusia County, Florida, found Shamika Mitchell, 38, of Detroit, guilty of aggravated child abuse and unlawful desertion of a child after a three-day trial in November 2024, according to the Office of the State Attorney for Florida’s 7th Judicial Circuit.
