‘Highly intoxicated’ man causes wrong-way crash on I-94 that hospitalized 2

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – Authorities believe alcohol played a role in a serious multiple-vehicle wrong-way crash on I-94 early Tuesday morning (April 22).

It happened at about 3:30 a.m. on I-94, near I-69, in Calhoun County.

According to authorities, a “highly intoxicated” 50-year-old man from Lansing was driving west in the eastbound lanes when he struck another vehicle head-on. The driver and a passenger in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital in Marshall for treatment.

The passenger is expected to survive.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was confirmed to be drunk and was taken into custody at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of I-94 were closed due to the investigation, but has since reopened.
