Dearborn Public Schools and EGLE roll out 18 electric school buses

The project hopes to save costs and reduce emissions

EGLE celebrates deployment of 18 electric school buses in Dearborn (Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy)

DEARBORN, Mich. – Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and Dearborn Public Schools celebrated the addition of 18 electric school buses to the district.

Phil Roos, EGLE’s director, said in a statement, “This is not just an upgrade to a school fleet – it’s a bold investment in reliability, cost savings, and the health of our students and drivers.”

Here’s what the new buses mean for the district:

  • These buses don’t emit tailpipe pollution
  • The district will save money on gas, so more resources can be sent back to the classrooms
  • Electric buses are quiet
  • One step towards reducing climate pollution

This project became possible because collaboration between federal, state, and local leaders:

  • Dearborn Public Schools
  • Blue Bird and Holland Bus Company
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • Michigan Department of Education

In less than three years, almost 400 electric school buses have been placed in school districts across Michigan.
