Jury deliberations continue in ex-officer’s trial in death of Patrick Lyoya
Jury deliberations enter day 3
KENT COUNTY, Mich. – A jury will begin day three of deliberations in the trial of former Grand Rapids Police officer Christopher Schurr.
He was charged with murder in the shooting death of Patrick Lyoya during a traffic stop in 2022.
On Tuesday, the jury said it couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict, but the judge ordered them to keep talking and denied a request for a mistrial.
The jury has three options: Second-degree murder, manslaughter or not guilty.
While the jury deliberated, protesters were outside the Grand Rapids courtroom. Police had to break things up and took one person into custody.
