Detroit man accused of sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl at Lake St. Clair Metropark

Girl kicks man in groin to fend off attack, prosecutor says

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 23-year-old Detroit man is facing charges in connection with assaulting a girl at Lake St. Clair Metropark, officials said.

Abdulnasar Muthana has been charged with criminal sexual assault-fourth-degree force or coercion, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. If convicted, he faces up to two years in jail and must register as a Tier II offender on the sex offender registry.

The assault happened on Saturday, May 10, at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township.

Muthana allegedly started to harass three girls, ages 14 to 15, who were at the park and made sexual gestures toward them.

“Later, Muthana allegedly approached the 15-year-old girl and touched her buttocks and allegedly forced his hand into her pants,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The girl allegedly kicked him in the groin and got away from Muthana.

Metro Park Police and deputies later arrested Muthana.

“I commend the bravery of the young victim and survivor of the confrontation,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “I praise the quick work of law enforcement for apprehending this offender. My office remains dedicated to protecting our children, seeking justice for victims, and holding offenders accountable in a court of law.”

Muthana was issued a $50,000 personal bond. His bond conditions include having no contact with the victims, no contact with minor children, no weapons and no drugs. He also cannot go to Lake St. Clair Metropark or any other park where there are children.

He is expected to be in court again on May 27 for a probable cause conference.
