The missing phosphorous pyrotechnics that didn’t activate during a military exercise have now been found, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The flares were from a joint military exercise with the Coast Guard and the Air Force that happened offshore from Milwaukee earlier this month.

During the exercise, four flares didn’t activate when they were deployed.
One was found by a lifeguard at Montrose Beach in Illinois on Memorial Day.
In the evening on Wednesday, May 28, the Coast Guard said the other three have also been accounted for, but didn’t provide any further details about where they were found.
Here’s the initial warning they released about the flares on May 27:
“The Coast Guard is warning all beachgoers to remain clear and contact 911 should they locate a silver shaped cylinder along the beach,” according to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan. “These are phosphorous pyrotechnics that produce a red smoke and flame that can reach temperatures of 2900 degrees Fahrenheit.”
