LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities are once again reminding drivers of Michigan’s Move Over Law after yet another driver hit a police cruiser on a major freeway this year.
Dashcam footage of the crash can be watched in the video player below.
Michigan’s expanded “Move Over” law took effect back in 2019. It required drivers to slow to 10 mph below the posted speed limit and yield their lane when passing police or emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
The latest crash happened Saturday, June 7, at about 11 p.m. on I-94 near Michigan’s western shore.
According to authorities, a Michigan State Police trooper was conducting a traffic stop when a 33-year-old man from Missouri crashed into the back of the police vehicle.
The trooper was not inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured.
The at-fault driver is believed to have been operating under the influence of drugs and was arrested and lodged at the Berrien County Jail.
