Driver pleads ‘no contest’ in fatal crash case

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Richmond woman was sentenced Wednesday, June 11, after pleading no contest to reckless driving causing death.

The crash happened in February 2024. Courtney Ellise Niezgoda allegedly drove through a red light and struck another vehicle, killing 63-year-old Tina Yaney of Macomb.

Police said she was using her phone for its GPS during the crash.

Niezgoda was charged with reckless driving causing death. She later pleaded no contest to the charge on April 21, 2025.

Judge James M. Maceroni sentenced Niezgoda to three years of probation, with the first eight months to be served in jail. She was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service while on probation.
