Vance Boelter, 53, allegedly fatally shot Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, at their home on Saturday. He also allegedly shot Sen. John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette.
He had allegedly disguised himself as a police officer before the shootings.
Two other Minnesota lawmakers were targeted, but one wasn’t home, and the other had left the house after police arrived, officials said.
Boelter has been charged with federal murder and stalking offenses, along with the state charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to the Associated Press, the 53-year-old had many notebooks that included plans that appeared to be months in the making.
The names in his writings included Democrats and elected officials, including the names of 45 state and federal officials in Minnesota.
He also had written out a list of internet-based people search engines, according to court documents.
Boelter was taken into custody on Sunday after he was found in the woods near his home.
