MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Local 4 told you about a mobile home community that was nearly underwater after a tornado touched down in Macomb County.
Now, residents are having to deal with the cleanup, but they claim these issues are happening way too often.
A mother of four living in the neighborhood is one of the main people concerned.
“It’s ridiculous. I mean, we work too hard to be living like this,” said resident Kristin Locke.
Days after floodwaters have receded at the Willow Point Mobile Home complex in Harrison Township, Locke and other residents are feeling the aftermath.
“Dead rats, frogs, trash. Kids can’t come outside and play because of the rotten situation. It’s just terrible,” Locke said.
The smell alone is almost too much to deal with. But the siding on homes is starting to peel off, just like paper.
“Why do we have to live like this when we are paying our rent? Every time we call it, ‘Oh, you’re a homeowner, basically deal with it.’ I mean, we can’t keep calling our insurance company. You guys have to do your job, and we maintain it,” Locke said.
“It’s unsafe. It’s unsanitized. You know, I don’t even want my kids to come out. I can’t even put their pool up because of this issue,” Locke said.
Richard Strubel has been there for 15 years, and he’s lost a lot over the years due to the constant flooding.
“I have lost one car, two central air units, and a battery-operated lawn mower,” said Strubel.
Yet when Strubel and Locke contacted management about the constant problems, they said nothing ever happened.
“I see no storm sewers or drains around here that actually work. So, yeah, it’s frustrating,” Strubel said.
And with more severe weather potentially on the way, the worry and concern are only rising.
“I don’t know. Maybe I’m gonna have to start investing in sandbags. I don’t know what to do,” Strubel said.
We attempted to contact management at Willow Point regarding this issue. Unfortunately, we have yet to hear back from anyone in the office. Just like the residents - we are hoping there’s a fix coming soon.
