Mailing a variety of packages through the United States Postal Service will soon have you dishing out more money.
The proposed price increases are part of the ongoing “Delivering for America” campaign designed to lower costs for the agency. The 10-year plan has so far included price adjustments on many USPS services and several cost-cutting measures.
The requests are currently under review by the Postal Regulatory Commission and would take effect on July 13 if approved.
For mailing services, the USPS announced in April the following proposed price increases:
- Forever Stamps will increase from 73 cents to 78 cents.
- Mailing a 1-ounce letter from 73 cents to 78 cents.
- Mailing a metered 1-ounce letter from 69 cents to 74 cents.
- Domestic postcards from 56 cents to 62 cents.
- International postcards and letters from $1.65 to $1.70.
As for various shipping services, the following prices increases were proposed in May:
- Priority mail services will increase by 6.3%.
- USPS Ground Advantage will increase by 7.1%.
- Parcel Select will increase by 7.6%.
While many services are increasing in price, the Postal Service says it is also applying a 12% price reduction for postal insurance when mailing an item. It is unclear when the Postal Regulatory Commission will issue a ruling on the proposed changes.
USPS last increased prices in July 2024.
