Those traveling for Fourth of July may see less construction on the roads this weekend.
According to AAA, more than 2.6 million Michiganders are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be suspending work and lifting some traffic restrictions aiming to ease congestion. 61% of its road and bridge projects statewide will be paused beginning July 3 at 3 p.m. until July 7 at 6 a.m.
Here’s where work zones will remain active in Metro Detroit:
Macomb County
M-19 has one lane closed in each direction at 31 Mile Road, along with the left-turn lanes closed.
Oakland County
I-75 has two lanes open in each direction between M-15 and the Genesee County line.
Eastbound I-696 is closed from M-10 to I-75.
Wayne County
I-75 has one lane closed in each direction between Springwells Street and Clark Street for Gordie Howe International Bridge construction.
M-10 (Lodge Freeway) has the following restrictions in downtown Detroit:
- One northbound lane is open from Washington Boulevard to Larned Street.
- One southbound lane is open from US-12 (Michigan Avenue) to Larned Street. Southbound Exit 1B to Larned Street is closed.
M-10 (Lodge Freeway) has the following restrictions in the Oak Park area:
- Two southbound lanes are open at M-102 (8 Mile Road).
- The Greenfield Road entrance ramp to southbound M-10 is closed.
Old M-14 (Ann Arbor Road) is closed at the Hines Drive bridge.
M-14/I-96 has one lane open in each direction between Beck Road and Levan Road. The following ramps are closed:
- Eastbound M-14 to southbound I-275.
- Eastbound M-14 to northbound I-275.
- Northbound I-275 to eastbound M-14.
- Northbound I-275 to westbound M-14.
M-39 (Southfield Road) has two lanes open in each direction between I-94 and I-75.
M-85 (Fort Street) has one lane open in each direction between W Grand Boulevard and Clark Street.
M-85 (Fort Street) has one lane open in each direction between Springwells Street and Woodmere Street.
Westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road) has two lanes open from Evergreen Road to Lahser Road.
Northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) has one lane open from Pennsylvania Road to Eureka Road; the southbound US-23 ramp to southbound I-75 is closed.

Heading north? Here’s traffic restrictions that will remain in place this holiday weekend:
Northern Lower Peninsula
M-55, Iosco County, will have a detour between Imperial Drive and Greenwood Road.
M-72/M-22, Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties, will have one lane open in each direction between Division Street and M-22.
US-23, Cheboygan County, will have one lane open in each direction between Old Mackinaw Road and Huron Avenue with temporary traffic signals.

Upper Peninsula
I-75 in St. Ignace, Mackinac County, will have one lane open in each direction with northbound traffic shifted to the southbound side at Cheeseman Road.
M-28, Alger County, will have one lane of alternating traffic with temporary traffic signals for bridge work over Prairie Creek.
M-48, Chippewa County, has a detour in place for both directions of traffic at the bridge over I-75 near Rudyard.
M-95, Dickinson County, will have one lane open with traffic alternating via a temporary traffic signal near Randville.
M-123, Chippewa County, will have one lane of alternating traffic with temporary traffic signals at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River for bridge work.
M-123, Mackinac County, will have one lane of alternating traffic with temporary traffic signals for bridge work over Bissel Creek.
US-41, Alger County, is closed between M-67 and M-94 with a posted detour.
