Police seek pickup truck that spilled nearly 175 gallons of antifreeze on 8 Mile Road

Cleanup costs exceed $10,000

WARREN, Mich. – Police in Warren are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that spilled about 175 gallons of antifreeze early Tuesday morning.

It happened just before 4:30 a.m., July 1, on Eight Mile Road, near Van Dyke Avenue.

According to authorities, a black Ford pickup truck pulling a trailer lost a large plastic container of antifreeze, which fell off and spilled. The truck was last seen heading northbound on Van Dyke Avenue toward Stephens Road.

The large container had no company markings or any information that could be used to identify the driver, but police said the Ford had some kind of yellow cage in its truck bed.

Police said there are no environmental or health risks from the spill. However, due to the spill’s size and environmental concerns, the road was closed while the Wayne County Road Commission cleaned up the antifreeze.

The emergency response and cleanup are estimated to have cost Warren more than $10,000.

Anyone who recognizes the truck or has any information is asked to contact the Warren Police Department at 586-574-4771.
