GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. – A Michigan man has entered a plea in the sexual misconduct case involving a child he had on his podcast as a guest.

John Dushaun Cole, 57, who used to be named “Johnny Peters,” has been to prison three times, two of them due to sex crimes, according to authorities.

When released, Cole became a mentor, community activist, and started his own podcast, police said. The child in this case was a guest on Cole’s podcast, according to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.

“Cole was not interested in what this young victim had to say,” Swanson said. “He was only interested in grooming this young victim.”

Police said Cole first met the child and their family at a Christmas party. The mother found pictures and videos exchanged between the child and Cole, which sparked the investigation, police said.

Cole pled no contest to one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 25, 2025. Swanson said he’s facing a minimum of 12 years in prison.
