WARREN, Mich. – A woman found her mother and a stranger dead in the kitchen of a Warren home, responding sources told Local 4.
The reported shooting happened at a condo in the 24000 block of Joanne Smith Drive, near Mound and Frazho roads, at about 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16. A woman said she found her 74-year-old mother and another woman dead from gunshot wounds.
When officers arrived, they found the woman’s mother lying on the floor of the kitchen with a gunshot wound to her head, according to preliminary information from a responding source.
They said they found another woman sitting in a chair at the kitchen table, with her back to the door, also allegedly dead from a gunshot wound to the head. A gun was allegedly found resting on her chest. She has been identified as a 76-year-old woman from Fraser.
Sources say that the shootings didn’t happen long before the daughter found the two women,
The daughter told authorities that she didn’t recognize the other woman who was in the house with her mother.
Police say the women did know each other, and they’re working to determine what their relationship was.
Officials are investigating the case as homicides and working to notify their families. The department plans to release more information on Thursday.
“People pass away in the neighborhood often, because it’s a retiring community, but it’s never a murder,” one neighbor told Local 4 at the scene.
