Why police believe 2 women found dead in Warren home had suicide pact

Daughter found mother, stranger dead inside Warren kitchen

WARREN, Mich. – Police said evidence collected after two women were found dead in a Warren home suggests the incident was a suicide pact.

Warren police and firefighters were called at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, to a home in the 24000 block of Joanne Smith Drive, which is near the intersection of Mound and 10 Mile roads, after a caller told police that two women had been shot at the home.

When officers arrived, they found a 73-year-old woman and a 75-year-old woman dead inside. Police said the caller was the daughter of the 73-year-old woman.

The 73-year-old woman was the owner of the home, and the 75-year-old was from Fraser, police said.

The Warren woman had a single gunshot injury to the head, and the Fraser woman had a single gunshot injury to her chest.

According to authorities, no one else was found inside the home, there were no signs of forced entry, a break-in or robbery.

How daughter found women

The daughter arrived at the condo complex and found the bodies. She called police and told them that her mother was on the floor, sources said.

She reported a second person, the 75-year-old from Fraser, sitting in a kitchen chair with her back to the door and a gun on her chest. The daughter said she did not recognize that woman.

Evidence suggesting suicide pact

Investigators found two handwritten notes at the scene, suggesting this was a “mutually agreed-upon suicide pact.” More evidence consistent with a “pre-planned suicide” was found at the Fraser woman’s home, said police.

After further investigation, police learned the handgun appeared new and both of the women were present during its legal purchase the day prior to the incident.

Sources also said it’s clear the two women knew each other, but the investigation into their exact relationship is ongoing.

Ongoing investigation

Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in this, and there is no danger to the community. The investigation is ongoing.
