WARREN, Mich. – Local businesses are holding fundraisers for the family of an Oakland County man killed by a teen driver who was trying to drive away from police in Warren.
Alex Habib, a 28-year-old father of two, was working as an Uber driver on July 12 when he was struck and killed by a teen driving away from police.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, in the area of 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Warren.
Warren police said the chase started in Roseville, and officers from the Roseville Police Department chased the teen to the intersection in Warren.
When he got to the intersection of 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue, the person fleeing police crashed into the car being driven by Habib.
Habib was an innocent bystander in the chase.
The teen fleeing police was in a stolen car, according to authorities.
Habib was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, leaving behind a 1-year-old daughter, a 3-month-old son and his wife.

The driver, 16-year-old Daniel Shane Canales, was taken into custody at a hospital, where he was being treated for injuries.
Canales was arraigned on July 17, where he was accused of fleeing police, running a red light and reaching speeds of 130 mph before hitting and killing Habib. The teen also had a 12-year-old in the car, according to prosecutors.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Habib’s family with funeral expenses and to support his children.

A fundraiser is being held at New Heights Nutrition in Madison Heights on Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 20% of any fundraiser purchase will be donated to Habib’s family, according to the business. More details, including the business’ address, can be viewed in the flyer below:
