Have you ever taken a dive into Lake Charlevoix? If not, now’s the time as it has been recognized as one of the top 26 lakes in the United States for swimming this summer by Reader’s Digest.

Spanning from the town of Charlevoix in the west to Boyne City on the eastern side, Lake Charlevoix ranks as Michigan’s third largest inland lake and is linked to Lake Michigan through a connecting channel.

“Separated from Lake Michigan by a narrow spit of land, Lake Charlevoix is calmer, more temperate and less windy than its mighty next-door neighbor,” Reader’s Digest wrote. “The charming small town of Charlevoix is a dreamy slice of Americana complete with a general store, quirky architecture and curving cycle paths.”

Lake Charlevoix has around 55 miles of shoreline and is known for its clear water and sandy beaches. It is also a hot spot for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and hiking.
