Why archaeologists are digging along Detroit’s riverfront

An archaeological dig began Monday along the riverfront, and it’s part of the massive I-375 reconstruction project that’s set to start next year.

The federally funded dig will lead to about 20 feet of excavation to determine if any archeological features would be exposed. It’s expected to continue through the month of August.

I-375 and Jefferson Avenue will not be impacted by this work.

Wayne mother sentenced to at least 28 years in prison for the death of her 8-year-old daughter

A mother was sentenced on Monday in connection with the death of her 8-year-old daughter.

On March 16, 2024, police were called to a home on Phyllis Street in Wayne and found an unresponsive child in a bedroom. Police said she had “significant bruising and swelling” to her head and neck. Prosecutors said the injuries made the child “unrecognizable.”

How much rain did Metro Detroit get? Here’s a list of totals from Monday’s storms

Storms moved through Metro Detroit on Monday, July 28, bringing heavy rainfall that prompted flash flood warnings across the region.

By 4 p.m. on Monday, Detroit Metro Airport set a daily rainfall record with 2.4 inches of rain. The old record, 2.16 inches, was set back in 2011.

Additional rainfall added to that total, and several other areas of Metro Detroit also saw a significant amount of rainfall on Monday.

Police want help finding missing, endangered 12-year-old girl from Macomb County

Police are asking the public for help finding a missing and endangered 12-year-old girl.

Isabella Cekala was last seen by her family at around 10:30 a.m. on July 28, 2025, in Macomb County.

Police found footage from a Mobil Gas Station at 16500 32 Mile Road showing her there at around 11:32 a.m. on July 28.

Weather: Warm, humid conditions persisting in Metro Detroit -- Here’s when to expect cooler temperatures

Due to all the moisture left behind from yesterday‘s rain, some low lying fog has developed across position of Metro Detroit through daybreak. Warm and humid conditions will persist today with highs around 90.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms can’t be ruled out late today through Thursday, particularly near the Ohio state line.
