The Warren Police Department will be holding “Operation Back to School,” a community-policing initiative designed to help support low-income families in south Warren.
This event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald High School.

The goal of the initiative is to ease financial burdens families face when preparing children for the upcoming academic year. Attendees will receive free backpacks and school supplies, along with complimentary haircuts and hairstyles for both boys and girls.
“This is an overlooked expense but an important one for kids,” said Officer Bryce Moon. “We want to send kids to school ready to start the year with the confidence everybody gets from a fresh trip to the barbershop/hair salon.”
The event is also reported to feature activities for the whole family, including an ice cream truck, a bounce house, and face painting. There will also be demonstrations from various police units, offering an opportunity for police-community engagement.
“We’ve heard that transportation issues sometimes restrict south Warren residents from attending events traditionally held at the Warren Police Department,” said Officer Moon.
To further assist families, a city bus will provide continuous shuttle service between Lincoln High School and Fitzgerald High School throughout the day to reduce any potential transportation barriers.
“We want kids to see us as approachable community members, not just figures in uniform. By providing support and creating positive interactions now at events such as ‘Operation Back to School,’ we are building a foundation of trust which is essential for a safe and connected community,” said Officer Moon.
