Macomb County man arrested after several people call 911 about him beating, dragging dog

BRUCE TOWNSHIP. Mich. – A Macomb County man was arrested after several people called 911 to report that he was beating and dragging a dog along a major road.

The Detroit Regional Communications Center received multiple 911 calls around 9:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025, from people who said a man was beating and dragging a dog near Van Dyke Avenue, near the Springbrook Estates in Bruce Township.

Police said the dog and the 31-year-old from Bruce Township man were found in the 12000 block of St. Micheal Avenue. He was arrested after a traffic stop.

Officers said the man became combative during the traffic stop and damaged a Macomb County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.

He was handcuffed without injury and taken to the Macomb County Jail, pending prosecutor review of the original charges and the damage to police property.

The injured dog was taken to a vet for emergency care and is expected to be OK, police said.
