Tanker crash on Michigan highway spills 12,000 gallons of milk

Cleanup efforts underway after milk spill contaminates drainage ditch

KINGSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – State officials have been contacted after a truck carrying milk crashed on M-46 in Kingston Township.

According to authorities, the crash happened Tuesday, Aug. 5, at about 6 a.m., near Phillips Road, roughly 40 miles east of Saginaw. More than 12,000 gallons of milk spilled and emptied into a drainage ditch, which will require environmental cleanup.

Sand was brought in to stop the milk from spreading further.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office has contacted the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy regarding the spill.

First responders worked to extricate the driver, who suffered only minor injuries, while Michigan State Police handled traffic control.

The investigation is ongoing.
