MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald has charged Ethen Carter Wright, 26, of Madison Heights, with careless discharge of a firearm causing injury.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 28, 2025, when, according to police, Wright offered the victim a ride home from their job at Great Lakes Crossing Mall.

As the victim entered the car, the 26-year-old, a CPL holder, attempted to take his handgun from the cupholder and place it in the backseat.
As he did this, officials said the gun was discharged, and the bullet struck the victim’s hip.
Careless discharge of a firearm causing injury is a high court misdemeanor punishable by up to two years or a $2,000 fine.
