Shelby Township police to provide update on man killed during traffic stop pursuit

Police said the man pointed a gun at them during the pursuit

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are providing an update at 9 a.m. Thursday on the traffic stop pursuit that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man from Troy.

The incident occurred on June 3 when police conducted a traffic stop on a white Caravan in the area of Van Dyke Avenue and 22 Mile Road.

Police said during the traffic stop, the 41-year-old man exited the Caravan and fled on foot. They pursued him, giving him commands to stop before deploying a taser.

According to police, the man continued to flee before producing a gun. The man was given several verbal commands to drop the weapon before firing and striking him.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
