SUV rear-ends Amish buggy in Michigan, hospitalizing 6

BLOOMINGDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An SUV crashed into an Amish buggy on Michigan’s west side Friday night, sending six people to the hospital.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Aug. 8 in Bloomingdale Township, about 10 miles west of Kalamazoo.

According to authorities, the speeding SUV rear-ended a buggy carrying six people on County Road 388, causing injuries to all occupants.

Four people were seriously injured and another was critically injured.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office believes alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The driver of the SUV was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.

County Road 388 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.
