Driver accused of racing on Macomb County road, causing deadly crash pleads guilty

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – One of the drivers accused of racing at the time when a car turning into Tim Hortons was struck in Macomb County, leaving a man dead and a woman seriously hurt, pleaded guilty to his charges.

The crash happened on Feb. 25, 2024, on Ryan Road at 10 Mile Road in Warren.

Police said Golam Chowdhury, 22, of Warren, was driving a gray Toyota Camry north on Ryan Road alongside Tayasukh Ayman, 20, of Warren, who was driving a black Honda Accord.

As they approached 10 Mile Road, Chowdhury and Ayman were driving at a high speed and possibly racing, according to witnesses.

Another car tried to turn left into the Tim Hortons parking lot on Ryan Road when it was struck by Ayman, police said. A 53-year-old Warren man who was riding as a passenger in that car was killed, and a 25-year-old Warren woman was seriously injured.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Macomb County prosecutors charged Chowdhury and Ayman with reckless driving causing death, a 15-year felony, and reckless driving causing serious injury, a five-year felony.

Ayman pleaded guilty to his charges on Aug. 11, 2025. He is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.

Chowdhury is expected to appear in court on Sept. 18, 2025, at 9 a.m. for a pretrial hearing.
