For those near Lake Michigan, from Manistee County down to Berrien County, expect waves between one to five feet and some strong rip currents.
Over on Lake Huron, the waves are looking similar, around two to five feet, especially in places like Alcona, Iosco, and Arenac counties, as well as Michigan’s Thumb area.
Boaters, take note -- wind gusts could hit up to 31 mph on Lake Huron and 28 mph on Lake Michigan. If you’re out there with a small or medium-sized boat, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the weather and maybe stick closer to shore.
The NWS suggests checking for any beach closures and keeping up with their online beach hazard map for the latest updates on wave heights and wind conditions.
It’s important to remember, if you find yourself caught in a rip current, don’t panic! Swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current, then head back to land at an angle.
