Police investigate shooting near Detroit hospital

One person was killed and another was injured Friday in a shooting near a Detroit hospital.

The shooting happened early Friday morning, Aug. 22, 2025, in the area of West Grand Boulevard and Linwood Street in Detroit. It’s near Henry Ford Hospital.

An unknown person pulled up alongside two men who were sitting inside an SUV, police said. That person fired shots, striking both of the men.

Ex-boyfriend accused of murdering Ashley Elkins to appear in court today

The man accused of killing Ashley Elkins, his ex-girlfriend who went missing in early January, is expected to appear in court today before Judge Joseph F. Boedeker in the 39th District Court in Roseville.

Deandre Booker has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment or mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual in connection with the murder of Elkins.

Booker refused to attend court on Aug. 8, and watched the hearing over Zoom. The judge checked back in with his defense attorney in the afternoon that day, who said Booker still declined to cooperate.

Man wanted in murder of Michigan teen arrested in California

A man wanted for the murder of a Jackson teen was arrested in California.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Mia Sims was shot in the neck just before 1 p.m., July 27. She was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, where she died from her injuries.

Police identified Antonio Green as a suspect shortly after. He faces charges of second-degree murder, discharging a firearm causing death and felony firearm. Law enforcement began to look for Green and asked the public for tips.

Detroit Lions’ Hutchinson, Reed reflect on training camp

Detroit Lions defensive stars Aidan Hutchinson and D.J. Reed shared their perspectives on the team’s recent training camp and joint practices, highlighting growth, competitiveness, and defensive potential.

Hutchinson said on Thursday (Aug. 21) he feels in a great spot physically and mentally, aiming to carry his momentum into week one and maintain it throughout the season.

“I feel like I’m in a really good spot right now and I’m just trying to carry all this momentum into week one and stay hot throughout the whole season,” Hutchinson said.

Weather: When and where to expect rain, storm chances Saturday in Metro Detroit

Temperatures rise back into the 80s on Saturday, but the 4Warn Weather team is tracking a possibility of rain and storms.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are both possible Saturday in the afternoon and evening with the passage of a cold front.

The chances are greater along and north of M-59, but a shower or two can’t be ruled out across Southeast Michigan.

Severe weather isn’t likely.
