Traverse City Walmart stabbing suspect ruled incompetent to stand trial

Judge orders treatment for man facing terrorism, attempted murder charges

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The man accused of stabbing 11 people at a Traverse City Walmart store has been ruled incompetent to stand trial.

Bradford Gille was arrested and charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of attempted murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

Surveillance video from the attack shows Gille assaulting several people with what police confirmed was a folding knife before he was stopped by a group of Good Samaritans.

Gille appeared virtually for his competency hearing Friday, Aug. 22, where the judge ruled that Gille could have competency restored with treatment.

He is currently being held at the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry. The judge ordered Gille to receive treatment over the course of six months, including some psychiatric hospitalization and medications.
