MACKINAW CITY, Mich. – Are you participating in this year’s 2025 Annual Bridge Walk across the Mackinac Bridge? Here’s what you need to know:

The event takes place on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to walk across the iconic Mackinac Bridge, connecting Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas.

The walk begins at 7:00 a.m., with participants starting from either St. Ignace in the Upper Peninsula or Mackinaw City in the Lower Peninsula.

The bridge will be closed to public traffic from 6:30 a.m. to noon, allowing walkers to enjoy the views.

Whether you choose to walk halfway and return, cross the entire bridge, or embark on a 10-mile round trip, there’s an option for everyone.

No registration or fee is required to join the walk, but participants must arrange their own transportation back if they decide to cross the entire bridge, as no bus service will be provided.

Walkers are encouraged to start early, as no one will be permitted to begin after 11:30 a.m.

Safety is a top priority, with designated lanes for walkers and Michigan State Police on hand for emergencies.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority wants to remind participants that strollers and wheelchairs are allowed on the bridge during the walk.

But there are numerous prohibited items, including signs, banners, umbrellas, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, and wagons.

Except for working service dogs, no animals are allowed.

Walkers must stay away from bridge railings. The inside lane in both directions will remain open for emergency vehicles.

At the end of your walk, you’ll snag a numbered bridge walk certificate as a cool keepsake -- you can pick up your certificate at either end of the bridge.
