20-year-old woman killed in murder-suicide at Westland apartment complex
The family of a woman killed Saturday night at a Westland apartment complex says she died in a murder-suicide.
Parents of 20-year-old Sarah Carroll say her ex-boyfriend shot and killed her at the apartment complex on Drew Circle Drive before taking his own life.
Westland Police still haven’t released any details about what led up to the shooting.
Jennifer Carroll said she learned her daughter’s ex-boyfriend had been stalking her for the past two months. She said Sarah was trying to obtain a personal protection order but had never confided in her about what she was going through.
Wayne County man accused of coercing 13-year-old girl for sexually explicit photos, videos online
A Dearborn Heights man is facing federal charges after meeting a 13-year-old girl online and asking her for sexually explicit photos and videos.
Rami Rafic Jergess, 31, is facing charges of production of child pornography, coercion and enticement and transfer of obscene material to minors.
The investigation began in Florida after a teen’s mother reported to police that her daughter was communicating with an adult online.

The No. 14-ranked Michigan Wolverines are coming off a balanced win after taking down the New Mexico Lobos 34-17 inside The Big House in Ann Arbor for their first victory of the 2025 season.
In Saturday’s (Aug. 30) victory, the Wolverines were led by running back Justice Haynes, who gave credit to God following his 159-yard, three-touchdown performance, which was a school record for a debuting tailback.

Arts, Beats & Eats festival breaks records with 20% attendance surge
Downtown Royal Oak’s signature Arts, Beats & Eats festival is drawing record crowds in its 15-plus year run, with organizers reporting a 20% increase in attendance this year.
The festival, spanning 18 blocks of downtown Royal Oak, features 60 restaurants and food trucks, offering visitors a diverse culinary experience.
At Jinya, one of the featured vendors, more than a thousand signature buns were sold on Saturday alone.
