MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Roseville man who pleaded no contest to killing his roommate at a group home in Macomb County was sentenced on Wednesday.
Mark Joseph Newsome, 54, got into a fight with Dale Francis Mitchell, 72, at the group home in Roseville on Jan. 31, 2024.

One of their other roommates saw the fight between the two and called police.
When officers arrived, they found Mitchell bleeding, bruised and unconscious on the floor of the home.
Mitchell was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police then arrested Newsome at the home, and he was charged with second-degree murder.
On May 20, 2025, Newsome pleaded no contest to manslaughter during a jury trial.
As part of a plea deal, Newsome was sentenced on Sept. 3, 2025, to five to 15 years in prison.
