DETROIT – A Powerball ticket sold in Detroit won $2 million in the drawing on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The lucky player matched the five white balls – 03-16-29-61-69 – in Wednesday night’s drawing to win a $1 million prize, which was multiplied to $2 million due to the Power Play.
The ticket was purchased at Sunkiss Market at 13535 Puritan Street in Detroit, according to Michigan Lottery officials.
“A lucky player who bought a Powerball ticket in Detroit is waking up to a big $2 million win! Congratulations to Michigan’s newest millionaire,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “The jackpot is still growing, and so is the excitement for Saturday night’s drawing!”
This is the second time a Michigan player has won a large Powerball prize this week.
A lucky player won a $1 million prize from a ticket that was sold at the CVS pharmacy located at 18585 E Warren Avenue in Detroit.
The jackpot soared to $1.7 billion for the next drawing after no one won the jackpot on Wednesday night.
According to lottery officials, Saturday’s jackpot has an estimated value of $770.3 million. It’s the third-largest jackpot in U.S. history, behind only the record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in 2022 and the $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot won in 2023.
The Powerball jackpot was last won on May 31, 2025, in California.
There have been 42 drawings since then, marking the most consecutive drawings without someone winning the jackpot. The previous record was 41 drawings, after someone won a $1.326 billion jackpot in Oregon.
Powerball plays can be purchased at stores across Michigan or online at MichiganLottery.com for $2.
Players select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, then one number between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball. Numbers can be chosen manually on a play slip or randomly by the lottery terminal.
The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball.
Drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time.
