These scammers are spoofing company phone numbers and demanding immediate payment using prepaid debit cards or gift cards, threatening to shut off power if payment is not made.

Consumers Energy never demands specific payment methods like prepaid debit cards and does not request credit card information over the phone.

Instead, customers should visit ConsumersEnergy.com/waystopay for legitimate payment options.

If contacted by someone claiming to be from Consumers Energy, customers should hang up and call the official toll-free number, 800-477-5050, to verify the interaction.

If you suspect you’ve been scammed and have made a payment, contact Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 to report the incident.

If no payment was made, it’s advised to file a report with the police.
