SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was arrested in Shelby Township after reportedly violating a Personal Protection Order (PPO) by following and nearly running his ex-girlfriend off the road.

According to authorities, a woman came into the Shelby Township Police Department on Aug. 29 to report that her ex-boyfriend had violated the PPO by following her and almost forcing her off the road. While she was making the police report, the ex-boyfriend called her cellphone and demanded to speak with her.

A police sergeant answered the phone and told him to stop contacting her. The man reportedly told the sergeant he was going to harm himself.

Police then found him in his vehicle near the woman’s home. During a traffic stop, the ex-boyfriend claimed he had no recent contact with the woman and was just driving through. Knowing he had called her in front of police earlier, he was taken into custody.

A search of his vehicle reportedly found cocaine.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, Richard Alan Cook Jr was charged with aggravated stalking, possession of a controlled substance and malicious use of telecommunications.

Cook was given a $35,000 bond.
