The person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk has been arrested, officials said.

President Donald Trump initially announced on Fox News Friday morning that the suspected shooter “with a high degree of certainty” has been caught.

Kirk, a conservative activist, was fatally shot during an event he was hosting at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

A Mauser .30-caliber, bolt-action rifle with a scope was found in a towel in the woods nearby following the shooting. The suspected shooter ran from the scene.

After federal officials released various images and videos asking the public for help finding the man, he was arrested Thursday night.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest in a joint press conference with law enforcement on Sept. 12.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we got him,” Cox said.

The suspected shooter was identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah man. The governor confirmed he was not a student at Utah Valley University.

Cox said Robinson was arrested Thursday night after his family members reported him to police. He reportedly confessed or implied he was connected to the deadly shooting.

Family members told law enforcement that Robinson had become increasingly more political in recent years and noted that Robinson had expressed disagreement with Kirk’s views.

Writings on shell casings

Along with the rifle being recovered in the woods near the scene, engraved shell casings were found.

In the fired casing, the inscription read, “notices buldges OWO what’s this?”

An inscription on the first unfired casing read, “Hey Fascists! Catch!”

On the second unfired casing, the inscription read, “O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.”

On the third unfired casing, the inscription read, “If you read this, you are gay lmao.”

Charges

Cox said the legal process in Utah runs differently, explaining it will take about three days for a charging document to be filed.

He said the charges against Robinson will be announced sometime next week.
