Police said the owner of the boat, another adult, and two children were anchored in the bay and were preparing to leave. The engine compartment flamed up and eventually exploded, according to authorities.

All four people were ejected from the boat. A Good Samaritan on the lake helped them get to shore.

Harrison Township firefighters provided medical treatment, and three of the four had to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

They are all stable.

Members of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division extinguished the fire and towed the boat out of the lake.

A fire investigator determined there was nothing suspicious about the explosion. Foul play is not suspected.
