What will happen if there’s a government shutdown at day’s end

Washington is just hours away from yet another federal government shutdown, with prospects looking rather bleak for a last-minute compromise in Congress to avoid federal closures beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

Republicans have crafted a short-term measure to fund the government through Nov. 21, but Democrats have insisted that the measure address their concerns on health care. They want to reverse the Medicaid cuts in President Donald Trump’s mega-bill that passed this summer as well as extend tax credits that make health insurance premiums more affordable for millions who purchase through the marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act. Republicans say the Democratic proposal is a non-starter.

Why CEO charged in deadly Oakland County hyperbaric chamber explosion is appearing in court today

The founder and CEO of an Oakland County health care facility, who is charged with the death of a 5-year-old boy who was killed in a hyperbaric chamber explosion, is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Tamela Peterson, 58, of Brighton, and three other workers were charged after Thomas Cooper was killed when the hyperbaric chamber he was receiving treatment in exploded at the Oxford Center on Jan. 31, 2025. The boy’s mother was also injured in the explosion.

What friends of Grand Blanc suspect say happened days before church attack

Two close friends of the Grand Blanc Township church attack suspect said they had a bizarre and disturbing encounter with him just days before.

Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, of Burton, is suspected of driving his pickup truck into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township. Police said Sanford got out, fired shots from an assault rifle, and then lit the church on fire.

Oakland County woman accused of hitting 11+ people with Jeep

A 30-year-old Oakland County woman is facing 18 felonies after reportedly hitting at least 11 people with a Jeep.

It happened Friday, Sept. 26, in Warren. Police said they received multiple 911 calls regarding several people who had been struck by a Jeep.

Weather: Warm wrap to September in Metro Detroit, seasonal start to October

Here we go again... sunny with highs near 80 degrees on this final day of September. However, it hasn’t really felt like September all month.

After a cooler than average first week, the rest of the month has had mostly above average days. We are waking up to temperatures on either side of 50. Sunshine will return today in full force. Temperatures will rise to wither side of 80.
