How Michigan State Police uses data-driven tactics to reduce freeway speeding

Michigan State Police’s recently reinstated motor unit is taking aggressive action against dangerous driving behaviors on Metro Detroit freeways, where officers recently clocked speeds as high as 103 mph during a targeted enforcement operation.

During a recent three-hour Operation Wolfpack detail on I-96 near Joy Road, troopers conducted 71 traffic stops resulting in:

  • 85 citations issued
  • 18 verbal warnings
  • 19 misdemeanor arrests
  • 1 vehicle towed

Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, the former U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District and mother of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, has died.

3 men charged for alleged role in at least 30 auto thefts across Metro Detroit

Three men were charged for their alleged role in stealing over 30 infotainment centers from Dodge Rams, as well as other auto theft-related crimes in Metro Detroit.

Brandon Redd, 26, from Roseville, Alante Smith, 27, from Detroit, and Bernard Woodward, 27, also from Detroit, were arraigned in court in St. Clair Shores on Monday, Oct. 6.

23-year-old man dies after being stabbed at Kroger in Southgate, police say

A 23-year-old man has died after being stabbed at a Kroger store in Southgate, police said.

Officers responded to the store at 16705 Fort Street after receiving a report of a stabbing at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025.
